Mossbourne Community Academy project is a contribution to the International Architecture and Design Showcase 2012 and Cultural Olympiad.

As part of the programme The British Council is working in partnership with Mossbourne Community Academy in Hackney and world renowned Architects Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners (RSHP).

The Academy has set up an Architecture Club for 12 to 14 year olds, creating an education initiative to inspire young people about the importance of sustainable design.Pupils were encouraged to create designs for buildings and installations for their local area. Using mood boards, drawings, computer-aided design and by building models the students created imaginative and detailed projects that would look at home in a professional architectural studio.

The entire project has been captured in this short photofilm by photographer Mark Burton.

Mossbourne Community Academy in Hackney has achieved fantastic results since the school was built in 2004. The Academy has raised educational achievement to the very highest levels and is widely recognised as the country’s vanguard of school improvement.
