We are pleased to annouce the winners of this year's International Fashion Showcase Awards 2014! 

In 2014 there are two new awards, for a designer and a curator, as well as the overall Showcase winner awarded to one participating foreign embassy or national cultural institute. These were presented at an awards ceremony held during London Fashion Week at our central venue 180 The Stand.

Showcase Award

WINNER: Estonia for their exhibition 'Fashion Now: Estonia' 

With special mentions to: Portugal, Paraguay and Qatar

Curator Award

WINNER: Yoshikazu Yamagata (Japan)

With special mentions to: Yanina Aubrey (Paraguay), Miguel Flor (Portugal), Tanel Veenre (Estonia)

Designer Award

WINNER: Hyein Seo (Korea)

With special mentions to:  Lucian Broscatean (Romania), Sopho Gongliashvili (Georgia), Matthias Winkler (Austria)

 

The award winners were selected by a panel of experts,  representative of both the business and cultural spheres of the fashion industry. Sarah Mower MBE, BFC Ambassador for Emerging Talent, chaired the advisory panel, which included;

  • Andrew Groves, University of Westminster
  • Anna Orsini, British Fashion Council
  • David Hayes, The Financial Times

  • Oriole Cullen, Victoria and Albert Museum
  • Maria Lemos, Rainbowwave
  • Marie Schuller, SHOWstudio
  • Mandi Lennard, Mandi’s Basement
  • Robb Young, Contributor International New York Times and Business of Fashion
  • Susie Lau, StyleBubble

The judging panel visited all participating showcases around London, and and were tasked with the difficult decision of selecting one winner for eacxh category. They felt that the standard of exhibitions, designers work and curatorial involvement were extremely high and were impressed with the way the showcase has developed this year. 

Each winner was presented with a scultpure created by previous NEWGEN and BFC Emerging Accessory Designer 2010 recipient, jewellery designer Husam el Odeh. 

In 2012 the award was presented to the Korean Cultural Centre for their exhibition, ‘A New Space Around the Body’, which featured the innovative work of eight South Korean fashion designers. In 2013 the Estonian Embassy was awarded the prize for ‘The Estonian Ministry of Creative Affairs’, an immersive installation presenting the work of four emerging Estonian designers.
