The Korean Culture Centre in London has launched their 100-day Korean culture summer festival, All Eyes on Korea, a festival of literature, food, fashion, craft, music and film at venues across London in celebration of 2012.
In the KCC galleries from July 11 you can find Korean Funerary Figures: Companions for the Journey to the Other World, an exhibition presenting unique aspects of Korean folklore, showcasing a rich variety of wooden figures – representing people, including carers, guides, acrobats, noblemen and mythological creatures that each served as decorations for the funeral bier.
With their bright colours, gaiety and laughter the wooden dolls explore Korea’s optimism towards life and timeless, characteristically Korean attitude towards death, encouraging to learn more about reach cultural and spiritual meaning of the artefacts.
