Indonesia Fashion Forward is a programme fostering creative exchange between the UK and Indonesian fashion industries with a focus on nurturing an innovative and economically sustainable Indonesian fashion industry.
The programme emerged from a partnership between Jakarta Fashion Week (Femina Group), the British Council and the Centre for Fashion Enterprise which started in 2012. The Centre for Fashion Enterprise established a regional hub for selected Indonesian fashion designers with support from Jakarta Fashion Week which hosted workshops such as ‘Fashion Bootcamp’ and ‘A Path to Fashion Business Success!’ to incubate talent in preparation for an international market.
Since 2012 the programme has created opportunities for British and Indonesian fashion professionals to collaborate including workshops on fashion film, live fashion photography collaborations, exhibitions and showcasing opportunities for British designers at Jakarta Fashion Week. In 2015 we held the inaugrual Sustainable Fashion Forum which convines fashion practitioners and designers with government policymakers to ask what role sustainability will play in the booming Indonesian fashion industry.
In 2016 the programme also includes our annual Graduate Fashion Week International Residency Award which takes place in a different location each year. This year two Indonesian brands working to ethically reinvent traditional textiles and cultural heritage have collaborated with two talented UK graduates.
