UK Fashion Now in Jakarta Fashion Week 2013

For fashion enthusiasts, Jakarta Fashion Week (JFW) is one of the most anticipated annual events. Held at Plaza Senayan this year, British Council Indonesia is proud to present UK Fashion Now – a British corner within Jakarta Fashion Week, showcasing the best of British art and fashion practices and promoting them to the fashion communities and general public in Indonesia.

UK Fashion Now is a long-term commitment between Jakarta Fashion Week, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy of the Republic of Indonesia and British Council that aims to develop Indonesia’s fashion industry. This year, the programme focuses on business skill development, capacity building as well as showcasing the best of UK arts and fashion practices in Indonesia.

 

Various activities that can be enjoyed in the UK Fashion Now at Jakarta Fashion Week are:

 

The Best of UK Fashion Film Screening (R-rated, for 17 years and older)

Is a compilation of short films from 9 (nine) selected UK and International fashion designers and film makers, curated by Kathryn Ferguson. The films include brands such as Louis Vuitton, Prada, Mulberry, H&M among a few.

 

Defining Generations Photo Exhibition

A photograph exhibition of 12 UK and Indonesian fashion designers handpicked for their strong correlation and appreciation between the two countries. The fashion designers include Fjodors Podgornijs and Golan Frydman from Fyodor Golan (UK Fashion Designers), Justin Smith (UK Milliner), Oscar Lawalata (Indonesian International Young Creative Entrepreneurs Fashion Winner 2009), and the eight CFE – JFW Indonesian fashion designers (Bretzel by Imelda Kartini, Yosafat, Barli Asmara, Cotton Ink, Dian Pelangi, Albert Yanuar, Jeffry Tan, Major Minor by Ari Saputra)

 

Mural Exhibition of The Duchess of Cambridge

The Duchess of Cambridge, Catherine Middleton, is one of today’s leading fashion icon. This exhibition will highlight the designs of two talented British designers, Jenny Packham and Erdem, which are often worn by the Duchess of Cambridge in various state occasions.

 

Fashion blogger workshop with Kristin Knox (The Clothes Whisperer) (by invitation only)

A specially curated workshop for selected Indonesian fashion bloggers and media invitations. With guest speakers Diana Rikasari (Hot Chocolate and Mint) and Michelle Koesnadi (Glisters and Blisters), both leading Indonesian fashion bloggers.

 

In part of the UK Fashion Now series of events is a VIP cocktail party, which will be held to signify  to the three-years fashion programme by British Council, Jakarta Fashion Week and Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy Republic of Indonesia, to  include the development of the sector and professionals, fashion exhibitions, public programs, research in fashion and culture, and community development programs.

This event will be attended by UK fashion experts from CFE (Centre of Fashion Enterprise) who supervised the Fashion Bootcamp few months ago, i.e. Wendy Malem, Toby Meadows, Angela Quaintrell, and Sanjeev Davidson. UK fashion blogger Kristin Knox and UK Fashion Designer Fyodor Podgorny from Fyodor Golan will also be present to enliven the event.

 

UK Fashion Now will be held as part of Jakarta Fashion Week on 3 – 9 November 2012, located on the ground floor of Plaza Senayan unit # 142A - 146a between the Louis Vuitton and Michael Kors boutique.
