Map Project Office

Map Project Office was founded in 2012 as a creative consultancy specialising in strategy-led industrial design.

Map’s work is end-to-end and spans design research, design strategy, concept design, design development, prototyping, production management, Kickstarter campaign support and product launch support. Their Kano Computer Kit is a case-study project for New British Inventors.

Kano is a computer anyone can make. Map collaborated with Kano to design a hands-on computer and coding kit based on the Raspberry Pi computer board. Their strategy was to make the product intuitive to set up and accessible for children. They developed the kit as a complete experience, designing new hardware such as the keyboard and case for the Raspberry Pi as well as creating packaging that can be re-used as storage. The computer kit has won multiple awards including the Red Dot, Cannes Lions and German Design Award, and has since been expanded to include a screen, camera, and speakers.
