Another Austria: Material Essence

Austria return to Somerset House with their fifth annual showcase, weaving together the country’s rich design history with a contemporary vision that is seeing its young creatives leap towards the international fashion stage. Focussing on the ‘Material Essence’ of Austria – a textile heritage spanning Blaudruck indigo dyeing from Burgenland to woollen Loden fabric produced in Graz – four young designers present fresh takes on these enduring arts and handcrafting methods, revitalising them with a global appeal reminiscent of the Wiener Werkstätte’s declaration of universal modernity more than a century ago.
