Merel Karfhof harvests energy. For example, she produces luxurious accessories with wind power. Her Wind Knitting Factory is an ingenious reworking of agricultural equipment and traditional machine knitting technology; a contemporary version of a cottage industry grounded in old Dutch technological knowhow and contemporary environmental awareness. London Fashion Week 2014 will see a perfomative presentation of the Wind Knitting Factory at work in a ‘secret’ central London location. Members of the public will be invited to find it and learn how it works. Those who post their photo of the ‘factory’ in operation on the Facebook page will be entered into a draw to win a unique and beautiful scarf made from the finest Scottish yarns knitted entirely by the wind.
