Crafting Futures in Indonesia has created new networks and opportunities for shared learning – particularly in addressing sustainable approaches towards craft and culture.
Indonesian designers and artists are part of a growing movement in the sector around repurposing materials and developing new materials. It is an area where the UK shows leadership and best practice, but still has room to learn about alternative ways from global approaches.
The British Council in Indonesia have commissioned research into the Craft sector, delivered by Budaya Kreatif Foundation, with advisory team from Institut Teknologi Bandung and University of Leeds, that focuses on how to develop new sustainable materials, how to engage with marginalized groups and investigates elements of traditional Indonesian craftsmanship.
