Theatrum Mundi: Urban Backstages, XVII Bienal Internacional de Arquitectura de Buenos Aires
16 October 2020
Grants available for UK and international biennales and festivals
The British Council’s Architecture Design Fashion team has supported presentations by UK architects and designers across ten international platforms since 2016 through our biennales and festivals grants. This year, for the first time, we’re able to support UK festivals to present work by international designers too – fostering even more collaborations.
We’re awarding grants of between £1,000 and £3,000 to support biennales and festivals in the UK to present work by international designers, and biennales and festivals outside the UK to present work by UK designers.
Biennales and festivals outside the UK wishing to showcase work by UK-based designers, or UK biennales and festivals wishing to showcase work by international designers are eligible to apply.
Grants are not designed for research and development, but to facilitate implementation of activities, such as collaborations and exchanges, exhibitions and installations. In 2020, grants can only be offered for activities either taking place in Official Development Assistance (ODA) recipient countries (for biennales and festivals outside the UK) or with designers based in ODA-recipient countries (for UK biennales and festivals).
Priority will be given to:
- activities involving designers in early stages of their career, i.e. within 10 years of practice;
- and projects that foster collaboration between UK-based and international designers.
There are an estimated five grants available this year.
TERMS OF THE GRANT
Grants will be offered by the British Council’s Architecture Design Fashion department to the biennale or festival organiser to cover specific costs in relation to the presentation of work by UK designers (for biennales and festivals outside the UK), and to present work by international designers (for UK biennales and festivals). Activity must take place between November 2020 and October 2021.
Biennale or festival organisers should submit full applications by 18:00 GMT, 15 November 2020.
