In 2010 Shao Yen graduated from Central Saint Martin’s College with an MA in Fashion Knitwear. Chen has interned with Alexander McQueen, Hussein Chalayan, and was awarded the 2009 winner of Fashion Weekend/Le Vif Award in Brussels, Belgium, for his BA graduation collection.

Shao Yen's trademark is his experimentation with unconventional materials and form. He was selected as part of Selfridge's "Bright Young Things" in 2011, and dressed Icelandic signer Björk to feature in Nicola Formichetti's NY Pop up. Since 2012 Chen has presented collections in London and Paris fashion week and is known for his experimental multi-media presentation.
