David Ferreira

In his signature fantasy-couture style, David Ferreira celebrates the traditional fado music of Portugal and pays tribute to its pioneering diva, a prostitute known as A Severa who popularised the genre in the streets and taverns of 1830s Lisbon. Derived from the Latin ‘fatum’ – meaning ‘fate’ or ‘destiny’ – and inscribed by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, Ferreira evokes in colour, fabric and details fado’s melancholic spirit and the tragic fate of its near - mythical heroine.

Mercedes-Benz awarded David Ferreira with the Les Etoiles Mercedes-Benz Award in cooperation with Alexis Mabille at Paris Fashion Week S/S17.
