Inspired by a conversation in Johannesburg with Maker Library Mentor Fi Scott, Machines Room have developed Maker Mile - a mapping initiative that connects and makes visible the open workshops, artist and design studios, fabricators, galleries, shops and businesses centring on Vyner Street in East London.
Machines Room launched the project during London Design Festival with the Open Workshop Network holding Open Mile, a bustling evening of creativity, where 12 spaces participated in a trail of making workshops.
Maker Mile members host regular meet-ups and events to highlight the rich making culture that exists in the area and engage the wider community with what can and is being made locally.
