Chrisp Street on Air

16 June 2014
by Niamh Tuft

We're delighted to announce that Chrisp Street On Air will be programming a special edition in association with New Perspectives: A Celebration at Balfron. On Saturday 21 June the recording studio at 11 Market Way in Chrisp Street Market will be open to the public to tell the story of the Chrisp Street on Air project.  A small exhibition will present photographs, film projections and audio about the project and whilst the celebrations and discussions at the Balfron Tower overlook Chrisp Street Market we will be broadcasting a special live architecture show from the Chrisp Street on Air shop. Expect discussions about the history of the Balfron Tower and interviews with a selection of the international architects who have been living in the tower as part of the British Council residency about their proposals for Poplar.

About Chrisp Street on Air

Chrisp Street on Air is a project to record, discuss and celebrate the distinctive character of Chrisp Street Market. It is a project about the local businesses, personal stories and everyday life of this part of East London. The project involves the making and recording of a series of radio podcasts about Chrisp Street and the local area, alongside a series of live events in the market. The Chrisp Street on Air headquarters are at 11 Market Way. This disused shop has been converted into a temporary recording studio that will play host to a series of dinners and public recording and broadcasting sessions to discuss the future of the market.Chrisp Street On Air is curated by The Decorators and supported by Tower Hamlets Council and the Mayor of London’s Portas Pilot Programme, which is nurturing town teams and helping increase the vibrancy and growth of high streets across London.
