Free basket weaving workshop with Brazilian Art Collective Flour
The Crossway Foundation will be hosting an exclusive workshop in London with Brazilian Art Collective Flour exploring how traditional basket weaving can be used to create large-scale architectural structures. The workshop will subvert notions of the application of traditional basketry by creating a new architectural space using a mixture of natural and hi-tech man-made materials. The aim of the workshop is to encourage a debate about diversity and plurality through creativity and will be a hands-on induction into contemporary basketry and Brazilian culture.
Eligibility: Artists aged 16 - 25
Date and Time: Friday 2 May, 9.00am – 6.00pm
Location: Edge of Arabia Gallery, 40 Elcho Street, London SW11 4AU

The workshop will mark Create & Inspire 2014, a competition which offers young artists from the UK and the Gulf a once in a lifetime creative journey to Brazil.
About Create and Inspire:
Create & Inspire is a popular art competition that identifies talented young artists in the UK and the Gulf. The initiative is run by British charity, the Crossway Foundation, in partnership with Art Jameel and Qatar Museums Authority, and supported by the British Council.
The theme of this year’s competition, “The World is not Black and White”, is inspired by the Qatar Brazil 2014 Year of Culture, a unique cultural exchange programme between the two countries. Twelve competition winners, aged 16-25, will have the opportunity to travel to Brazil, and experience one of the most colourful cultures in the world on the creative adventure of a lifetime.
Applications for Create & Inspire 2014 are now open. The deadline for submissions is 12 June 2014. To apply visit www.create-inspire.org
