When it comes to fashion, Italy isn’t exactly an undiscovered land. The fashion industry is the one of the country’s largest employers and the Italians are now making a concerted effort to nurture their fledging designers. Vogue Talents, an extension of the scouting activity undertaken by Vogue Italia, has teamed up with the Italian Cultural Institute in London to produce a showcase featuring 8 break through designers. Highlights include A-Lab Milano who present neatly tailored pieces for the modern woman and some eye catching prints. The Coliac brand on show is the work of jeweller Martina Grasselli who is renowned for her geometrically shaped jewellery. Her glamorous and funs designs are destined to catch the eye of many a fashion editor. Meanwhile Caterina Gatta’s work is a clever mix of both old and new. Taking vintage fabrics by designers such as Versace, YSL, Givenchy and Valentino, she then reuses the material on fashion forward pieces of her own design which often include latex and leather. Her special edition collaboration with fashion house Lancetti combines Italian heritage style with contemporary ingenuity.
The Vogue Talents International Fashion Showcase 2012 is taking placefrom 17-20 February at the Italian Culture Institute, 39 Belgrave Square, SW1X 8NX.
