Fraser Muggeridge and I recently caught up to talk about this plans to run the typography summer school in India early next year. We’ll bring you an update on Fraser’s plans soon but in the meantime applications are now being accepted for the London summer school with a deadline of 1st May. The studio is prolific with work happening in the UK and abroad, and a notable current project is the exhibition graphics for the Barbican show: Laurie Anderson, Trisha Brown, Gordon Matta-Clark: Pioneers of the Downtown Scene New York 1970s. The catalogue and poster in particular directly reference a 1970s approach of pre-digital graphics that is appealing in it’s simplicity and directness. Fraser also told me about a great new exhibition he’s part of called The Art of Lost Words in Plymouth. Each designer has been given an obsolete English word to represent and Fraser has created a billboard that responds to the word 'rogitate' - which means to ask frequently. The piece humorously plays on children’s repetitive questioning when travelling to a holiday destination – are we there yet?
Laurie Anderson, Trisha Brown, Gordon Matta-Clark: Pioneers of the Downtown Scene New York 1970s runs at the Barbican until 22 May. The Art of Lost Words is at Peninsula Arts Gallery in Plymouth until 28 April 2011.
