Here are a few interesting places I've come across during my brief visit to Seoul. Hyoja- ro is a small area close to the Gyeongbokgung, a 14th century palace. There are lots of small cafes that also sell designer furniture, galleries and bookshops. Pictured is the Factory Gallery, which has an exhibition by graphic designer Dongwan Kook, who was at Camberwell School of Art in South London. Also the Gagarin bookshop, selling small handmade books, magazines and second hand trainers, oddly enough.
The Daelim Museum has a striking facade by the French architect Vincent Cornu. The current show is the retrospective of Dieter Rams, Less is More.
Apparently Seoul doesn't have an architecture bookshop. Instead a bookseller with a van stops off at all the architecture practices, bringing them books and magazines. One of the few Korean architecture magazines is Space, which was started by architect Kim Su-gun. He designed the building which is now the magazine's office, his studio, a gallery and theatre. The building dates to 1974 and is black brick covered with creepers. A glass bridge connects it to a second building made from concrete.
