Paper Salon 2012

The Paper Salon was an experimental architecture workshop run by the British Council and Paper+ Architects in 2012, at the Calvert 22 Foundation in Shoreditch, East London.

The experimental, day-long forum was the latest in a series of events aimed at reviewing the research and testing the proposals developed as part of the exhibition Venice Takeaway: Ideas to Change British Architecture. Twenty-four young architects and artists gathered to consider visionary architecture and, through the method of drawing and conversation, explored how their experiences might influence future practice.

The idea of the Paper Salon combined the best traditions of the 'salon' - those enlightenment-era gatherings aimed at facilitating an exchange of knowledge and ideas - with the esquisse, the practice of working out ideas through drawing and sketching.
