This simple loom constructed from wooden planks was traditionally used to make sleeping mats in the Western Cape, Eastern Cape and KwaZulu Natal.

A group of ‘grandmother’ weavers in Delft, Cape Town, who work with Binky Newman, founder of Design Afrika, have trained Heath in loom weaving. He in turn has contributed to developing the system, and the range of products that can be made.
