Cultural Exchange Opportunity in Los Angeles

9 January 2013
by Kendall Martin-Robbins

In the second phase of Cultural Exchange International, the British Council (USA) and the Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs are offering three fellowship grants for socially-engaged emerging cultural leaders in the UK to conduct residencies of two to three weeks with host organizations in Los Angeles. Residencies may take place any time between August 15, 2013 and June 30, 2014.

Each residency will use arts, culture or social action to promote shared economic and social goals between global citizens. The fellowship program will also help each participant hone his or her leadership skills, provide networking opportunities, and build transatlantic relationships to promote cross-cultural projects or partnerships.

We invite artists, arts or cultural managers, cultural educators, creative presenters, social entrepreneurs and community activists who are in the beginning stages of this kind of work to apply for the $6,500 grants. The emerging cultural leaders we select for the residency should all address contemporary social issues through the lens of arts and culture and show evidence of growing accomplishments in these fields.

To apply:

Please read the application guidelines (PDF). The application deadline is March 15, 2013. Questions? Please email Sophie Nazerian at sophie.nazerian@ britishcouncil.org.
